Jamie To Star In 'The 9th Life of Louis Drax'

From THR
Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan has been cast as the lead in Miramax's psychological thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax. Alexandre Aja (Horns, The Hills Have Eyes) will direct.
The film, which will begin shooting in Vancouver in October, marks Miramax's return to the film production business. The once-busy label that spawned such indie hits as Shakespeare in Love and Good Will Hunting had concentrated its focus in recent years on its library assets. From its coffers, Miramax dusted off Liz Jensen's best-selling novel of the same name, which it first optioned in 2004 with plans for the film to be adapted and directed by the late Anthony Minghella.
Max Minghella, Anthony's son, wrote Louis Drax, which marks the actor's screenwriting debut. Minghella is producing alongside Antcolony Films' Tim Bricknell (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency), Brightlight Pictures' Shawn Williamson (50/50) and Aja. The film will be executive produced by Rosanne Korenberg (Half Nelson).
Zanne Devine, Miramax's executive vp of production and development, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. Sierra/Affinity will serve as the international sales agent, introducing the title at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
"Tim and I are thrilled this deeply personal project is being brought to fruition with passion and integrity," Minghella said. "We look forward to collaborating with Alex and Miramax to create a truly original movie that will captivate and surprise audiences."
Added Aja: "Max's script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life."

The story begins on Louis Drax's 9th birthday, when he suffers a near-fatal fall. In order to reveal the strange circumstances surrounding the young boy's accident -- Dr. Allan Pascal (Dornan) is drawn into a thrilling mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.
"This spectacular psychological thriller will be a classic Miramax production," Miramax chairman Thomas J. Barrack Jr. said. "There is no better storyteller in the industry than Max Minghella and no more talented director than Alexandre Aja. Together, they will weave a unique and masterfully crafted script with the bold and powerful talent of Jamie Dornan and his accompanying cast."
The 9th Life of Louis Drax is a Canada/UK co-production.

'The Fall' Will Be Back in October? + Jamie Talks About Playing Paul Spector

Jamie Dornan will be back playing killer Paul Spector in The Fall next month.

BAFTA announced today there will be a screening for the hit BBC thriller in September in London.

It means Dornan and Gillian Anderson - who plays Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson will be reunited on screen. The pair will also do a Q&A at the September screening.

It’s thought the second series of the crime drama could then go out in October on BBC2.

The Fall season two will also feature former Merlin star Colin Morgan in a lead role, playing DS Tom Anderson.

Describing his role in the drama, Dornan admitted it was full-on.

He said: "I don’t think it would have been too good for me to stay in that head space for three months. When it was appropriate, I would make someone laugh. There were scenes where I’ve got a ligature around my victim’s neck and I’m pretending to squeeze with all my life. She’s foaming at the mouth, my sweat’s dripping in her eyes, I’m watching her die and her eyes are bulging. After every one of those scenes, when they’d say, ‘Cut!’ I was saying, ‘Oh my God I’m so sorry. I’m going to untie your feet here. Is that OK?’ Because I am not that guy. I did my best to slip out of it as soon as ‘cut’ was called."

BEAUTY is luck, and beauty makes luck, and anyone who thinks otherwise ought to meet Jamie Dornan. The 24-year-old model and actor and sometime musician was in town last week to take part in some low-key promotion of some high-profile projects, not the least of them Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette,” in which he plays the 18th-century French queen’s enigmatic Swedish lover, Count Axel Fersen.

It is a modest role, barely a cameo for Mr. Dornan (and, not incidentally, for his torso). But, like many of the things he has done, it got him noticed, by moviegoers and movie agents and even by critics, who singled out him and his etched abdominals for praise.

Getting noticed is something at which Mr. Dornan is apparently a natural. Knees to chest, pretzel-twisted in an overstuffed chair at the SoHo Grand Hotel, Mr. Dornan was wearing low-slung Calvin Klein jeans, a generic-looking T-shirt and a goofy hat pulled down over a botched cheap haircut from a barber in Los Angeles. He had just returned from meetings on the West Coast with his new agents at Creative Artists Agency. Far from standing out in any way, Mr. Dornan looked so unexceptional as to be nearly anonymous. He looked like a great many of the comely but interchangeable people one sees at modeling cattle calls and forgets the moment they leave the room.

“I question why all of this has happened to me,” Mr. Dornan said in the broad Belfast accent that he successfully erased for his role in “Marie Antoinette.” “I don’t see myself as particularly good-looking.”

Daniel Radcliffe Talks About Jamie

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has predicted that 50 Shades of Grey's Jamie Dornan will have the pick of roles after landing the major gig.

Radcliffe said that landing the role of billionaire Christian Grey will give the Belfast actor the freedom to choose future projects.

Both actors have played the lead characters in two of the best-selling book series of all time, with each shifting hundreds of million of copies worldwide.

Radcliffe said he does not believe being associated with such an iconic character as Grey will hinder The Fall star Dornan (32).

"I think it's an amazing opportunity to get your work seen by loads of people," he said. "I consider myself lucky that I've already done a huge film franchise.

"Jamie will be able to have control over his career and pick his scripts, which is a position that only a tiny percentage of actors are in.

"Any actor growing up who gets a chance to do something that will take control of their career would be foolish not to take it. I don't think it will hinder him."

Former Calvin Klein model Dornan is now reportedly being targeted by director Guy Ritchie for the lead in his King Arthur series.

However, his first movie after 50 Shades will see him in the leading role in home-grown film, The Siege of Jadotville.

Radcliffe (25), who was visiting Dublin, caught up with pals from the 2012 Dubin All-Ireland-winning minor football team.

He was in town for the Irish premiere of his new film, What If, when he was reunited with the players.

And it looks like he formed a bond with the boys in blue when he met up with them over the weekend and they presented him with a personalised Dublin GAA jersey.
